<p style="text-align: justify;">Tip #1 to <b>lose the baby weight</b> is <a href="http://losepregnancyweight.ca/diets-dont-work">do not diet. Diets don&#8217;t work.</a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2572" title="bellyfat" src="http://losepregnancyweight.ca/wp-content/uploads/bellyfat-300x190.jpg" alt="lose the baby weight" width="150" height="150" />I know dieting may be your first instinct, but trust me, it&#8217;s wrong. Let me first make a distinction between &#8220;A Diet&#8221; (BAD) and &#8220;A Balanced Diet&#8221; (GOOD) because there is a lot of confusion out there contributing to the obesity epidemic, and it is an epidemic with over 60% of Canadian adults overweight or obese. And, &#8220;A Diet&#8221; will not help you <i>lose the baby weight</i>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">&#8220;A Diet&#8221; is something promoted in book, infomercial or ad and is often associated with terms like &#8220;miracle&#8221; or &#8220;new&#8221; or &#8220;revolutionary&#8221; and may be linked to a specific food, like grapefruits, mangos, apples or food group, like &#8220;plant-based&#8221; or food category &#8220;no-carb&#8221;, &#8220;protein&#8221; or could even be tied to a region like South Beach, Florida, or the Mediterranean, etc. If the recommendation is some form of short-term starvation or substitution, it is not going to help you <u>lose the baby weight</u> permanently. It may be extreme and is not a realistic long-term solution. You may see some quick losses, BUT, get ready for the fat-ass rebound.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Thousands of years of evolution have trained our bodies to store fat for lean times. Every time you diet, you are starving yourself of proper nutrition and you create the very physiological circumstances to which the body responds by actually planning to store fat the next opportunity it gets. You&#8217;ve just opened up a fat savings bank, and your deposits are going to be automatic and they are going to be often. You body has your best interest in mind because it does not want you to starve again. Unfortunately it backfires, and dieters typically put on more weight than they lost. And then they repeat the cycle with another miracle diet. The fat savings bank has a GRAND reopening and your savings grow and grow.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">If you want to lose the baby weight, &#8220;A Diet&#8221; is not the answer.</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">&#8220;A Balanced Diet&#8221; on the other hand has something in it that &#8220;A Diet&#8221; does not, and that is BALANCE. When we talk about balance, we talk about more than nutrition, but let&#8217;s start there. Your body needs a balance of protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals &#8211; about 1800 calories a day if you&#8217;re still breast feeding. (I count chocolate in with the fats, so rest assured it&#8217;s in there. I got your back. I&#8217;m not sadist.) Instead of triggering the physiological response of planning for starvation with &#8220;A Diet&#8221; and the opening the fat savings bank, you need to convince your body that there is PLENTY of nutritious food by eating healthy, nutritious food more often. More than 3 times per day. Hey, there&#8217;s a wild idea &#8211; snacks. This will convince your body that it is OK to start making withdrawls from the fat savings bank.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You need to overdose on nutrition, preferably organic as we want to avoid toxins. Fruits, vegetables, grains, and lean meats. WOW! Revolutionary! Something we all know. But how many of you know the proper balance of protein, carbs and fats that should be in every meal? Show of hands? Ok and for those who do, do you have the time or the energy to make these meals and snacks every day? Ok, consensus is NO. Therein lies the problem. We generally know what to do, but we can&#8217;t even get in the proper number of serving of fruits and vegetables, or the consume 8 glasses of water a day. So, we falter and get fatter with quick fix, short-term solutions, while the diet book authors get richer and hire personal chefs, trainers and coaches.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">FYI &#8211; even if you&#8217;re getting the recommended servings, the nutritional quality of many of today&#8217;s foods are inferior to that of our parents generation. So, you really need to eat a LOT more to get the same nutritional benefits. But who wants to eat 50 bowls of spinach, daily.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">You don&#8217;t need &#8220;A Diet&#8221; to lose the baby weight, you need &#8220;A Balanced Diet&#8221;.</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ok, so we&#8217;ve established that &#8220;A Diet&#8221; is not a realistic or long-term plan to lose the baby weight. Now that you know what <span style="text-decoration: underline;">not to do</span>, my next blog entry will focus on what you can do &#8211; Nutritional Cleansing, the first step toward achieving a healthier, more balanced life.</p>

And, you&#8217;ll store essential fat, about 4kg (8.8lb), to meet the needs of breastfeeding. Women who breastfeed tend to lose more weight than moms who bottle feed. So, if you&#8217;re trying to lose weight and you&#8217;re breastfeeding, you&#8217;re ahead of the game. One new mom asked me if she should start breastfeedingagain. I asked her how old her child was and she said 7! LOL. Just kidding.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">If your <i>weight gain during pregnancy</i> exceeded 30 pounds, it&#8217;s extra fat and it needs to go.
